In an intense first day at the Shere Bangla Stadium in Dhaka, South Africa capitalized on Bangladesh's struggles, bundling them out for just 106 runs after a post-Lunch collapse. After losing a couple of early wickets, South Africa finished the session comfortably at 65/2, leading by 41 runs at Tea.

Wiaan Mulder led the early onslaught, claiming three wickets in a blistering start that left Bangladesh reeling at 21 for 3. Supported by Kagiso Rabada and Keshav Maharaj, both of whom took three wickets apiece, South Africa dominated the first session. Mahmudul Hasan, the only Bangladeshi batter to show resilience, managed to hold the fort during a difficult morning, reaching 30 runs before falling to the South African bowlers.

Following a brief lunch break, Mahmudul attempted to assert himself, hitting Dane Piedt for a couple of boundaries. However, his promising innings was cut short, resulting in a swift end to Bangladesh's innings. Taijul Islam and Nayeem Hasan added some late runs, but it was too little too late.

On the South African side, Hasan Mahmud made an impressive start with the ball, taking the crucial wicket of Aiden Markram. Although he had early movement, Tristan Stubbs and Tony de Zorzi managed to counterattack, with Stubbs hitting a boundary off Mahmud and reverse-sweeping Mehidy Hasan for another four.
