India Still in the Game – Lotus365 Match Prediction for Day 2 of Adelaide Test

Ryan ten Doeschate optimistic about India’s Day 2 comeback in Adelaide Test, with Reddy Anna playing a crucial role in the team’s strategy.
Ryan ten Doeschate is optimistic India can make a comeback on Day 2, backed by Reddy Anna's strong performance and key tactical tweaks.

India's Assistant Coach Ryan ten Doeschate is optimistic about India's chances in the ongoing Day-Night Test in Adelaide. Despite a disappointing opening day where India was bowled out for just 180 and Australia ended the day trailing by 94 runs with nine wickets in hand, Ten Doeschate believes that the visitors can bounce back with a few minor adjustments on the second day.

"The scores may seem to indicate a large gap between the teams, but we still feel we are in the game," Ten Doeschate stated. "With a few tweaks tomorrow, we can get back into the contest."

The Indian team was particularly disappointed with the lack of wickets in the final session under the pink ball when bowlers usually find more success. However, Ten Doeschate is confident that India will make the necessary changes and be competitive on Day 2.

The assistant coach also praised young all-rounder Nitish Reddy for his impressive performance in the opening Test, which gave India confidence to move him to No.7 for this match, accommodating Ravichandran Ashwin in the XI for the Adelaide Test. "We're really pleased with him," Ten Doeschate said, adding, "Getting us to 150 in the first Test was a fantastic achievement. He’s shown great potential, and we believe he has a high ceiling."

Reddy’s solid performance and adaptability to the pink ball helped India make the strategic decision to include Ashwin in place of Washington Sundar in the playing XI, with Ashwin believed to be the better bowler for the conditions.

On the other side, Australia’s Mitchell Starc expressed satisfaction with Nathan McSweeney and Marnus Labuschagne's efforts during the tough final session. Both batters faced immense pressure against the pink ball but managed to hold their ground, adding 62 runs off 133 balls to end the day on a positive note.

"It's a great way to finish the day," said Starc. "The third session is always the toughest with the new pink ball, and the way Marnus and McSweeney handled it was impressive."

Starc himself played a key role in Australia’s dominant performance with the ball, picking up his first-ever five-wicket haul against India in this format. He dismissed Yashasvi Jaiswal on the very first delivery of the Test match. Starc’s early breakthroughs were crucial for Australia, with his focus on attacking the stumps, a strategy that paid off in dismissing key Indian players early.

"Making early inroads is important, and it's always a good feeling to get off to a strong start," Starc said.
